About

Biography

Rio Rancho, New Mexico is home to oil and watercolor artist Steve Webb.  He has painted throughout his life, with his productivity and growth as an artist greatly accelerating in retirement.  He works in a somewhat crammed and chaotic home studio, with a corner reserved for his other passion of making music with mountain dulcimer and ukulele.

While his oil and watercolor paintings are representational, he believes in taking great license with color, shadow and reflection to best bring out the beauty and mood of the subject.  He finds inspiration in the works of the great impressionists, such as John Singer-Sargent, Mary Cassatt, and many others. Portraiture and animals are favorite subjects, along with the occasional landscape.  Every painting is an experiment and an adventure, with lots of struggles and no guarantees.  The emotional investment put into the work usually pays back in kind with the painting’s own impact on those who view it.  It’s worth it!

Steve has exhibited in several shows, including New Mexico Watercolor Society exhibitions and Masterworks of New Mexico.
